A young Guernsey Swimming Club athlete put in some strong performances in Winchester.
Samuel Cann, 13, took part in six different races at the Winchester City Swimming Club Sparkler Open Meet, a long course event held on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December.
He achieved personal bests for all his swims, bringing home silver medals in the 200m and 400m Individual Medleys, with 13 seconds and eight seconds PBs respectively.
He finished the 200m medley in 2:37.73, the 50m breaststroke in 36.71s for fourth, the 50m butterfly in 31.90s for fifth, the 200m breaststroke in 2:59.62 for fourth, the 400m Individual Medley in 5:34.08 and the 100m breaststroke in 1.21.57, again for fourth.
Not only was it valuable experience in a 50m pool, the weekend also improved his qualifying times for the county championships, which take place in two months’ time.
