Sport returns to the Guille-Allès

Tuesday 12 November 2024

Sport in the Library will return this month offering a unique mix of pickleball, table tennis, archery, fencing, boxing, and darts, in the unconventional setting of the Guille-Allès.

The event aims to show that sport is accessible to all and can be played anywhere, any time.

"Last year's event was such a huge success we knew we had to repeat it this year," said the Guernsey Sports Commission's Nicky Will.

"The weather in November can often restrict the opportunity for people to be active but thanks to the support of the Library we are going to be offering some fun indoor sporting activities for all ages right in the heart of the Town."

Upper rooms including the Hayward Room and the mezzanine, will transform into arenas for sports activities aimed at all age groups.

Skateboarding is absent this year with organisers pointing to the ongoing development of new indoor ramps in St Andrew's.

Jackie Burgess, Community and Wellbeing Lead for the Guille-Allès Library spoke about the library's mission to support health and wellbeing, "We could not believe how busy we were last year."

She said the event would simultaneously promote literacy through a designated area for reading and exploring sports books.

It is free to attend and takes place on Saturday 23rd November from 10 am to 2 pm.
