Yesterday's morning session with each island competing in the ILCA 6’s saw 23 dinghies racing in winds of 6 to 8 knots enabling competitive sailing.

Menorca's Maria Gornes Rodriguez was in 1st place after four rounds. She and her competitors are back in action this afternoon with vantage viewing spots from the Model Yacht Pond area.

Nicole Stovell of Bermuda goes into today in second place, closely followed by Dominic Breen-Tu of Ynys Môn.

Guernsey's Jessica Watson was in 11th position out of 23 at the end of Monday's sailing.

Jersey's Oliver Boyle is his island's youngest competitor across all sports. He's just ahead of Guernsey's Watson in 10th.

"It's tough, really good fun but it is tough," he said at lunch on Monday.

"It's a phenomenal experience (being here). I've finished for the day but I'll be out (Tuesday) afternoon. I'm pretty happy with how I placed (Monday). In my second race I messed up a little bit but it was still ok. In my first race I'm really happy with my 5th place in it."

Ahzai Smith from the Bermuda team is at his first Island Games and is enjoying the experience both on the water and dry land so far.

"I did alright (Monday morning). It could be better but it's new waters so....we had just one afternoon training. I'm sailing again (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday. This is my first Island Games and it's very different from other competitions that I've done.

"Its different but it's good," he said.

The ILCA 6s and 7s are single handed dinghies, meaning competitors are alone at sea navigating their vessels. They are marked on steering and trimming techniques.

The race rules can be viewed HERE.

This year event organisers are using 'TracTrac' so supporters locally and abroad can follow the races digitally. That can be accessed HERE.
