Sun sets on Chertsey House Series as age-graded places are decided

Wednesday 29 May 2024

The sun set on the Chertsey House Road Series with the culminating West Coast 10K settling the age-graded placings.

With the best three performances from four races counting, the calculators were out in the Rovers Club House which hosted the prize giving after the final race.

Age-grading is a way of measuring and comparing the quality of running performances, adjusting for age, sex and race distance - each individual's time is given a percentage score.

Graham Merfield topped the men's category again with 86.49%, but was pushed all the way by Matt Jameison (84.86%) while Rick Weston (82.67%) was third.

Ulrike Maisch (84.68%) was the leading woman, with Vicky Carre second (76.94%) and Jeanne Svejstrup (68.65%) third.

The West Coast 10K begins by the Imperial Hotel, following the main coast road to Grande Rocques. It was run in glorious evening conditions, with only the slightest hint of a headwind in the setting sun.

The pack was led out by James Priest who steadily pulled a gap on Rick Weston to win in 32:46.

Weston, back after a short break, was second in 33:24.

U20 Jack Rees (34:02) held off Matt Jamieson (34:05) for the final podium spot.

Natt Whitty continues her return to race fitness, winning the women’s race in 37:08, with Abbie Swain (39:40) and Vicky Carre (41:55).
