Nomination period opens for sporting achievement awards

Thursday 31 October 2024

The Guernsey Sports Commission is now accepting nominations for the 20th annual Sporting Achievement Awards.

Scheduled for January, the event seeks to honour the island's top sportspeople, acknowledging significant achievements across both local and international stages over the previous year.

Operations Director Graham Chester said: "There's been lots of sporting action both domestically and on the national and international stage over the last year so there should be plenty of performances and achievements to celebrate."

The awards aim to showcase the broad spectrum of talent within Guernsey's sporting community, from athletes competing at the Olympics to burgeoning young talents beginning their sports careers.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for all sports to put forward their top teams, coaches or individuals for one of the awards and I would encourage all local sporting organisations to get nominating," Chester added.

With 12 categories available, the Commission has published criteria for each award on its website where nominations can also be made.

The nominations window will remain open until Monday 9 December.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 9 January at the Beau Sejour theatre beginning at 6.30pm.

The event will also feature guest speakers and presenters, to be announced closer to the date.
