Le Tissier full of praise for Lioness' as they march into final

Maya Le Tissier had goosebumps as she watched England’s Lioness win their place in the World Cup final.

On the same day as it was announced she was being nominated for the PFA’s young player of the year, she was also part of BBC Radio Five Live’s commentary team for England’s 3-1 win against host's Australia in the semi-final.

Le Tissier had travelled with the England squad before the tournament got under way as a reserve, before taking time to see the sights in Australia but is now back training.

Her Manchester United team mate Ella Toone opened the scoring for England in the first half.

The Matildas responded in the 63rd minute, with Sam Kerr finding the net on the break, before England were ahead again through Lauren Hemp and then former United plater Alessia Russo made sure of the win.

“I’m so happy for them. I’m speechless,” said Le Tissier when interviewed after the match.

She went on to praise the work rate of the whole England side, who play Spain in the final on Sunday at 11:00.

Le Tissier, who is looking forward to Champions League football this season, is one of six on the PFA’s young player of the year shortlist.

The announcement said she was a “standout for Manchester United at the back following her move from Brighton & Hove Albion”.

It is the second year in a row the 21-year-old has been nominated for the award, the winner of which will be announced on 29 August.
