Guernsey’s gold medal tally climbed to 16 on the second day of sporting action in the NatWest International Island Games.

It means they head the medal table from Jersey, who have 11, and Faroe Islands and Isle of Wight on seven apiece.

Today is the first time golfers have been in action at L’Ancresse as they start a campaign that will run over the next four days.

A stack of medals will again be decided in the evening swimming session at Beau Sejour where poolside seats are in high demand. Yesterday Guernsey’s flag bearer Tom Hollingsworth won his 50th gold.

Down at the Indoor Bowls at Hougue du Pommier, Guernsey’s ladies face the Falkland Islands men in the final of the Open Triples this morning.

Both Guernsey’s football teams are also in action.

The women need to win after losing their first group match yesterday. They play Western Isles at 14:30 at the Corbet Field.

And the men face the Isle of Wight at the Track at 18:30, with both sides unbeaten so far.

This afternoon, the mountain bikers get their first taste of action with a spectator friendly criterium at Delancey Park. Women start at 14:45 and men at 15:30 with the races lasting an hour.

Guernsey women’s basketballers will be looking to keep up their winning ways with a group tie against Faroe Islands at 19:00 at Beau Sejour.

Archery 720 compound and recurve finals take place this morning at Port Soif.

Guernsey’s table tennis team face Gotland from 09:00 as they look to make the final at 13:00.

And the athletics squad will be looking to add to their medal haul at Footes Lane which drew a huge crowd on a drama filled Monday night.

Headlining will be Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Alastair Chalmers, who races in the 400m hurdles at 20:30.

The evening action there begins at 18:00.
