Participants took on a “royal mile” at Beau Sejour as part of a new free inclusive series for anyone aged over 50.
The Guernsey Athletics’ Healthcare Group Masters Mile aims to both provide a platform for those who may never have run before through to anyone looking for a fresh challenge and more experienced runners, much like Park Run but over an even more accessible distance.
It took place on the 70th anniversary of Roger Bannister becoming the first athlete to run under four minutes over the distance, with at least three people in their 80s taking part.

Organisers had dubbed the course the “Royal Mile”, starting in front of the Royal Oak tree on Cambridge Park planted for Albert the Prince Consort, passing near the Duke of Richmond Hotel, through Winston Churchill Avenue, the site of the last duel fought in Guernsey, up via the Jubilee Skatepark towards Beau Sejour, visited by Queen Elizabeth on LIberation Day in 2005.

A second introductory event takes place on the same course on Sunday 9 June at 10:00.
It will be followed by a screening of Chariots of Fire in the Beau Sejour theatre.
The third event will be staged with the Night of the 5000s at Footes Lane on Friday 5 July, before finishing on the road at the Vazon Mile on Thursday 8 August.
