Guernsey Mind Investec 10k Challenge set to take place this Sunday

Wednesday 04 September 2024

The annual Guernsey Mind Investec 10k Challenge is set to go ahead this Sunday from 09:00 with more than 250 eager runners already signed up to take part.

The mental health charity aims to support people of the Bailiwick and encourages a positive attitude towards supporting mental health and wellbeing with this year's event focusing on the theme of "challenging yourself".

Amanda Hibbs of Guernsey Mind said runners of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

"The 10k Challenge is one of our main events for us at Guernsey Mind, the event is not only one of our main fundraisers, but also raises awareness about mental health and wellbeing. We all know excercise is beneficial for our bodies, but it is equally crucial for our minds."

The 10k Challenge is supported by The Investec Group.

"We are extremely grateful to Investec for supporting this event once again - they provide volunteers to help on the day as well as sponsoring the event which means that every penny raised goes towards supporting our work within the Bailiwick," said Ms Hibbs.

The run starts at 09:00 on Sunday from the KGV.

It follows a route along Landes du Marche and Camp du Roi, heading down through Rue Sauvage and the lanes towards the Peninsula, before runners turn left along the West Coast towards Cobo.

They then head back up the Route de Cobo to finish at the KGV.

"The route will be well signposted and marshaled throughout, but we ask motorists to exercise caution on Sunday morning and to cheer on our runners as they pass," said Ms Hibbs.

"We are aiming for a fun, friendly atmosphere at the finish line, complete with Guernsey Dairy's mobile unit which will be selling ice cream. We extend our thanks to KGV, St John, Guernsey Civil Protection, and CI Coop for their invaluable support."

Registrations for the running challenge will remain open until the day of the event. For more information and to view the route map, visit guernseymind.org.gg or click HERE
