Guernsey FC climb out of relegation zone

Monday 20 January 2025

Guernsey FC are out of the relegation zone for the first time since September.

They maintained their unbeaten start to the year with a 2-1 win away at Westfield.

Ross Allen headed their opener in the 49th minute of what had been a scrappy game, before the home side's Manolis Gogonas equalised after latching to a defense splitting through ball.

On 70 minutes Sam Murray scored his 30th goal for the club and one which was to prove decisive.

The result meant GFC leapfrogged above Sutton Common Rover and Metropolitan Police to 18th spot in the Isthmian South Central.

GFC assistant coach Kevin Gilligan praised his side's game management this time out after they were pegged back deep into added time of their last match against Badshot Lea.

He believes the players now really understood the system.

"The intelligence and game management is starting to come to the fore. That's exciting and that's probably the reason behind why we're moving up the table."
