'Revive and thrive' plans welcomed

Monday 15 June 2020

A new social venture launched to help advance the agenda for sustainable development of island communities has welcomed the 'revive and thrive' plans for the Bailiwick's economy as we emerge from the corona virus lockdown.

Transition Islands has been set-up by the entrepreneur Sasha Kazantseva-Miller with a network of professional collaborators including Jon Buckland (Unleashing Potential), Estelle Levin-Nally (Levin Sources), Vivienne Robinson (Plantier), Kay Davidson (ASKAY Style), Jock Pettitt (Soil Farm), Sasha Marsh (Soil Farm), Justin Sykes (Innovest Advisory), Jennifer Strachan (NED, ESG investments), Rachael Cumberland-Dodd (Feed Marketing) and Guy Hendry (Edible Guernsey).

Together, Transition Islands "believes in a future where people and planet can prosper together in thriving and healthy communities, and sustainable and equitable economies".

Transition Islands Founder, Ms Kazantseva-Miller said collectively they are pleased with the recovery strategy for the islands.

“We are delighted to see the launch of the high-level strategy for recovery for Guernsey.

It is ambitious, inspiring, essential and engaging, building on the power of the GuernseyTogether spirit and the global #buildbackbetter message.

The ambition for sustainability is embedded at the heart of the strategy, built on the Future for Guernsey plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework. It recognises that our well-being and prosperity is inextricably linked to our environmental, social and economic resilience.

Despite the tremendous health and economic burden, the Covid-19 crisis has provided us with a tremendous opportunity to come together to imagine a better future for all.

The engagement with the community at all levels will be essential to deliver on this vision. The Government has sent a strong signal regarding a Partnership for Recovery approach and we look forward to continuing participating in this process.

Transition Islands was set-up earlier this year to advance the sustainability agenda in island communities like our home Guernsey. We have engaged in conversations about sustainable recovery through the Transition Islands podcast and our social media channels”.
