Record-breaking racer Zef Eisenberg added a new accolade to his C.V. at the weekend.
Mr Eisenberg set the all-out flying mile record at Pendine on his MADMAX 'Green Monster' Motorbike, achieving an average speed of 182.40mph, which overtook Campbells 174mph in 1927 in the Iconic Bluebird as the best ever by car or bike.
A flying mile is the average speed, over a mile, with a mile run up. It is the measured distance for all big speed records at Bonneville, as measured by MSA, FIM, FIA.
A specially made 400hp supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa was used built by MADMAX Race Team.
The record was achieved on the first pair of runs, after which the rear tyre started to fall apart. On the third run, the motorbike engine blew up, due to prolonged, high rpm wheel spin on the sand, spraying Zef and his helmet visor with black engine oil.
Despite being unable to see as he approached the finish line at 195mph, he was able to stop the bike without incident.
With critical engine damage, this prevented his ability to continue racing and increase the speeds and achieve his "ultimate goal" of 200mph in the flying mile, bike or car.
