The Youth Commission's Caterpillar evolving into a Butterfly

Sunday 04 August 2024

The Youth Commission has been asking children in Guernsey to contribute to a community art project.

‘The Caterpillar’ is now in situ at Saumarez Manor after Peter de Saumarez gave permission for it to be there for the summer.

“It’s wonderful to have something so colourful placed around the grounds and we welcome children to bring stones on their way to the train,” he said.

Children have been asked to paint a stone with what they want to be when they’re older.

“It’s lovely seeing what young people want to be when they grow up, from being an artist or a butcher to being braver,” Sian Jones from the Commission.

“As we were setting up a young boy said he wanted to be like his dad. Our hope is that we can encourage positive inspiring conversations at home and give young people a free fun activity to do.”

Anyone is welcome down to Saumarez Manor to add to the Caterpillar as it evolves into a Butterfly.
