Youth Commission takes over production of alternative ID cards

An ID Card for young people has been approved by local travel companies when travelling to the other Channel Islands and the UK.

The card previously produced by Sarnia Mutual and known as the ‘Crimestoppers ID Card’ has had a redesign and name change. It is now known as the ‘Bailiwick of Guernsey ID Card’.

This card has been approved by local travel companies to allow travel to the other Channel Islands or to areas within the UK.

"It is a great resource enabling young people and adults to travel more easily"

Whilst the card is not formally recognised for proof of identity or age, there are various groups around the island who will accept The Bailiwick of Guernsey ID Card for this purpose.

"It is a great resource enabling young people, and adults to travel more easily," said Aaron Davies, the Operational Manager at the Youth Commission.

"It makes getting an ID Card easier and cheaper than other options available on the island. I’m sure many young people will benefit from this service, enabling them to travel further afield and gain a variety of experiences."

The Bailiwick of Guernsey ID is £10 for those aged 17 years and over, with a validity of 10 years; or £5 for 16 years and younger, with a validity of 5 years.
