You are invited to church for the Royal Wedding

Saturday 19 May 2018

St Saviours church will be screening the Royal wedding today, and is encouraging people to turn up to church dressed as a wedding guest.

A formal invite from The Reverend Mark and Tracy Charmley cordially invites guests to the wedding of Ms Meghan Markle and HRH Prince Harry of Wales and asks people to come in suitable attire.

The printed timetable states that the church will be showing coverage of the Royal wedding from 11:00 on a big screen in the church. 'Guests' are encouraged to wear wedding outfits with the dress code stipulated as being: 'morning dress, party frocks, tiaras, big hats and buttonholes optional, but encouraged.'

Reverend Mark Charmley said: "We have set up a big screen and will be showing the build up to the ceremony and the ceremony. It is a chance for everyone to come and celebrate together and we are open to anyone who wants to join us, the only limit is the size of the church."

After the wedding service there will be canapés and fizz: "At 13:00 we will be serving nibbles and sparkly drinks to celebrate the occasion and orange juice for those who would prefer that" he said.

Reverend Charmley thinks that the church is the perfect place to watch the event: "I am all for weddings in church and I think it is good that Harry and Meghan are making that commitment. I think the Royal family is a good thing and I am certainly a supporter the younger generation of Royals are quite excellent."

He concluded by mentioning the 'other' big event of the day: "It is only a shame that the BBC will not let us show the FA cup final or we would have kept the church open longer!"

Other events being held to mark the Royal Wedding include a function at the Grandes Rocques Bistro with a big screen showing guests what is happening in Windsor.

A number of schools and preschools have already held events marking the union of Prince Harry and Ms Markle. St Mary and St Michael Primary School pupils dressed in wedding attire or in red, white and blue colours on Friday 18 May to join in the fun. They also made a crown using silver coins to "make Meghan Markle sparkle".
