CCTV improvements planned

Tuesday 18 April 2023

Police have identified the entrance to North Beach and Le Truchot as two areas where CCTV coverage could be improved.

In August they began a project to install new cameras at The Crown Pier, High Street, La Valette, Northside on the Bridge, Salerie Corner, La Tourgand on the North Plantation, St James’ Chambers and the Sunken Gardens.

Now those are in place, a new review has begun.

Since the previous round of new cameras have come online, they have already proven very useful in both preventing crime and helping officers investigate recent incidents,” a police spokesperson said.

They added that CCTV is a very effective tool and its improvement was a key part of its strategy to combat violence against women and girls.

“Guernsey Police is always looking at opportunities to improve CCTV, and another review of potential improvements is already underway," the spokesperson continued.

“Two areas have already been included for consideration in that review: the Truchot and the entrance to the North Beach. Generally, the review is looking at potential new areas for cameras and improving existing banks.”
