Examples from the GCFE Art and Design Diploma final year show included a winning piece about sexual harassment.
The 23 art works featured in the end of year show came from a range of different disciplines on varying themes.
The five prizewinners, sponsored by Specsavers, were announced at the show last week which gave the students studying a Higher National Diploma in Art and Design an opportunity to showcase their work at the Delancey campus.
Multimedia artworks on display at the end of year show last week included a short film; interior design project, sculpture and graphic design. The course takes place on the island but is devised by the University of the Arts London.

Best in Show – a sculpture named "1 in 5" created by Daisy Chapple, 20 was chosen unanimously due to the formation and execution of the idea presented.
Her winning piece is the central sculpture in a series of five realistic casts of local women’s breasts mounted to eye level in an all black surround, four in white made of plaster and one painted realistically and made of gelatine. The work highlights the frequency of sexual harrasment towards women in modern society. A placard presented with her work states, “1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime” as well as other statistics about sexual harassment.
"I decided to do the piece after that story about a girl walking home and almost getting assaulted made the news. The reaction that The Guernsey Police had to that really affected me, so that kind of led on to me wanted to raise awareness about sexual assault and the reality of how often it happens.
"As I went along, I really wanted to make sure the piece was inclusive, which is why I included women of different shapes, sizes and ages. In the preliminary stages, I also played around with the idea of having casts that were clothed as well, to illustrate that whatever a woman might be wearing, it does not necessarily indicate consent. This was really a learning experience for me, and I wanted to educate other people with an interactive piece that sort of demands attention.
“I’m so glad my piece got this kind of recognition - especially by a company outside of college. It’s a topic I’m really passionate about, so getting best in show means a lot to me. It’s such an honour to finish college on a high note,” she said.
