A new charity campaign, raising money for Cancer Research UK, has been launched in Guernsey inspired by a well-known Channel Islands journalist.
People across the Bailiwick are being urged to donate £1 and jump in a puddle to raise money for the fight against cancer.
A launch event has been held at Government House, featuring speeches from Susie Campanella, the founder of the local initiative; His Excellency Lt-Governor Sir Ian Corder, and a video montage including appearances from comedian Jon Culshaw and the inspiration for the initiative, Channel Islands journalist Gary Burgess.

Ms Campanella is close friends with the well-known ITV journalist. After learning of his terminal cancer diagnosis, she sent him a pair of wellies for his birthday, after being touched by a photo she came across, with the caption:
The organisers are hoping to reach £1 million nationally with the initiative.
“If each one of you donates £1 and jumps in a puddle,” said Sir Ian in his speech, “and then tell ten other people to do the same, and then they tell ten more people…. With five cranks of the handle we can meet Susie’s target five times over.”
Those invited to the launch event were also shown a promotional video for the charity campaign:

“We are so excited to be launching this campaign right here in Guernsey and are overwhelmed by the support we’ve already received from so many people, both on-island and further afield,” said Ms Campanella.
“Cancer devastates so many lives, it goes far beyond me and my lovely friend Gary, and it needs to be stopped. The only way we can do this is to find a cure and new treatments, we hope that these vital funds raised will go some way to doing just that - while also spreading a little fun during such a challenging time.”
