West Show starts today

Wednesday 15 August 2018

The second of the annual summer shows starts today with the West show taking centre stage for two days at the L’Eree aerodrome.

The West show celebrates more than 100 years of Guernsey heritage and is described as a traditional country show with a varied mix of entertainment for the whole family.

While predominantly an agricultural and horticultural show, it has diversified in recent years and this year there is a BMX stunt show and a magician and stilt walker.

The show starts at 10:00 today and tomorrow and closes each night at 23:00, when the bar shuts. Entertainment is tailored throughout the day to accommodate visitors and the show has a distinct family flavour during the day, with a more carnival atmosphere as darkness falls, bands play and the real ale is flowing.

The West Show features large displays of exhibits by Guernsey residents in the traditional country show classes such as cakes, vegetables, flowers, fruit, arts and crafts, photography and plants together with animal and livestock classes, such as cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and fur and feather.

There is always something to see throughout the two days, with UK and local acts providing entertainment both in the arena and around the showground. There are also loads of trade stalls, from vehicle displays to charity stands and a mixture of many types of food for all tastes.
