The Bailiwick's Island Games athletes are heading back home this weekend, after a week long display of their skills and competitive natures at 'the friendly games'.

Jersey won the event overall, leading the medals table with 33 gold, 31 silver and 29 bronze awards, with the Isle of Man and Faroe Islands in second and third place overall respectively.

While Team Guernsey won the most medals in total, it is gold medals which dictate your position on the medals table so the Sarnians came fourth with 19 gold, 37 silver and 31 bronze.

While Joshua Lewis won Guernsey's first gold medal of the 2019 Natwest International Island Games last weekend, the final podium places were won on the athletics track. Guernsey Athletics coach Tom Druce joined three of his proteges to race in the 4x100m relay, winning gold. They also took the 4x400m relay gold medal too.

Before the athletes all leave Gibraltar they had last night's closing ceremony to attend.

Guernsey was represented by team stalwart cyclist Gary Wallbridge who was the flag bearer. He will be involved on an organisational level as the Sarnians prepare to host the Natwest International Island Games for a third time, in 2021.
