The remaining athletes from Team Guernsey arrived back in Guernsey yesterday morning, and were met with cheers and applause after a historic Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Two medals were picked up by competitors, the first in nearly three decades of attempts by successive competitors.
Lawn bowler Lucy Beere secured silver in the women’s singles on 1 August, whilst Alastair Chalmers achieved a podium position when he won bronze in the men’s 400m hurdles on 6 August – the island’s first ever in track and field events.
Badminton player Stuart Hardy, who reached the round of 32 in mixed doubles with Chloe Le Tissier, said the Games had been “amazing”, and the whole squad felt “so welcomed” whilst in Birmingham.
He thanked the “thousands and thousands of volunteers” who made the Games possible and was impressed at the high number of professionals competing.

The Games began on 28 July with road cyclist Marc Cox and badminton player Elena Johnson carrying the Guernsey flag at the opening Parade of Nations inside the Alexander Stadium.
In total, 28 local athletes travelled to the Games, the majority of which competed in swimming, cycling and athletics.
Boxer Billy Le Poullain carried the flag during the closing ceremony on 8 August. He reached the quarterfinals of the 71–75kg weight class during the Games.

Elena Johnson and Chloe Le Tissier reached the last-16 of the women’s doubles in badminton.
Abi Galpin finished 7th in the women’s 200m, whilst cyclist Samuel Culverwell ranked 9th in the men’s road race.
Guernsey’s swimmers saw mixed success, with four finals appearance between the men’s, women’s, and mixed competitions.
Triathlete Joshua Lewis ranked 23rd in his event, completing the race in 55:13.
