Washing machine repair list grows

Thursday 09 January 2020

The number of people waiting for their washing machine to be checked and fixed continues to grow in Guernsey, as Hotpoint is still working through the list.

The firm has asked anyone with concerns about their machine to register directly with them, and Hotpoint itself will then arrange for any work which may be necessary to get affected equipment checked and fixed.

Valpys in St Martin is a local retailer and repair business, but said everyone needs to call Hotpoint directly.

Nick Lawlor from Valpys said the company had received "several hundred phone calls" since a recall notice was issued in December for more than half a million washing machines.

A number of Hotpoint, Whirlpool and Indesit machines are affected by an issue affecting the door lock mechanism.

When the heating element in the washing machine is activated, in very rare cases a component in the door lock system can overheat, which, depending on product features, can pose a risk of fire. No serious injuries have been reported.

You can check if your machine is affected HERE.

If your machine is affected, Mr Lawlor from Valpys said you should register with Hotpoint. Hotpoint will then contact you back as staff work through the waiting list to offer a repair or replacement.

"Hotpoint are dealing with it all directly," he said. "None have been fixed yet, everyone who registered is on the list and Hotpoint have started to contact those customers.

"We've had several hundred phone calls to Valpys - but all have been redirected to register with Hotpoint directly."

Affected machines were built between October 2014 and February 2018.
