Van to be moved

Wednesday 21 December 2022

The van left to Neptune at Picquerel is going to be removed by the owner after police again contacted him about it.

Initially, Guernsey Police said on Saturday that the owner was "not concerned" about the vehicle being submerged by the rising tide.

Today a spokesperson said: “On Saturday officers made contact with the owner of a van which is still stuck on Baie Du Picquerel, and were told arrangements were being made for it to be removed.

"As the van remains on the beach, we are now working with colleagues to get it removed as soon as possible, and we are also seeking to make contact with the owner again.”

The van has been seen stuck on the beach since the weekend, with the wheels becoming deeper entrenched in the sand as it has been washed up and down with the tide.

Witnesses have seen the owner at the van's side today and it's believed to be being moved.

This morning a spokesperson for the Rousse Mooring Committee said he thought it would be either the police or States Works to be responsible for removing the vehicle, while the Vale Douzaine suggested the States' Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management team would be the ones needed to do the work.
