Officials from the Vale have warned a single 'super-polling station' at Les Maingys Activity Centre will not be ideal for all parish voters at next year's island wide election, particularly the elderly, or those with mobility issues.
At a meeting at the start of November, parish officials, residents, and Vale resident deputies unanimously backed another option.
It has now been proposed to add both the Vale Douzaine Room and Rue Maingys as polling stations to the election plans.
While Les Maingys has already been suggested as a 'super polling station', meaning it would be open for all votes to use prior to the official polling day in line with other planned 'super polling stations', the Vale is asking to be allowed to run a ballot box at the Douzaine Room for parishioners only on Election Day too.
In a planned amendment to proposals put to the States by the States Assembly and Constitution Committee, Deputy Chris Le Tissier says he will make this request, while also encouraging other parishes to consider similar amendments to their own polling arrangements.
"I have asked each Parish if they want to join in with similar and appropriate changes to their own Parish polling arrangements," he said. I am still waiting for some responses before submitting an amendment to the SACC proposals."
SACC announced the new polling station proposals, as they wanted to streamline the election process. This came after a consultation period with the island's parishes. You can read more HERE.
The current polling station plans will see people able to cast their votes on Sunday 15, Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 June 2025, at Beau Sejour, Les Maingys Activity Centre, or Styx Community Centre, whilst the traditional voting stations for Castel, St Martin's, St Sampson's, St Andrew's and St Peter Port will be open to all voters ONLY on Wednesday 18 June. The States will be debating these proposals this week.
Deputy Le Tissier's planned amendment could see SACC asked to include the Vale Douzaine Room as a parish only polling station open only on election day itself too.
