Update: Pathologist due tomorrow to examine bones

A Home Office Pathologist is due to arrive in Guernsey tomorrow (Thursday) to carry out a post-mortem on the human remains found in a burnt out car.

The pathologist has been expected to come to the island to help the investigation since the discovery of the bones was made last week.

He will complete a post mortem on the human remains, and while that won't confirm the identity, it will help Guernsey Police "better understand the potential cause of death".

"This follows the completion of exhaustive work carried out to examine all of the burnt debris from the vehicle," Police Chief Officer and Head of Guernsey Law Enforcement, Patrick Rice, said. 

"We can [also] confirm that Mr [Mikus] Alps was a licensed shotgun holder, and further work is being carried out to identify the remains of a shotgun found in the car."

Mr Rice added that the post mortem examination would enable further tests to be carried out to help identify the bones.

Mr Alps has been missing since a car, registered in his name, was found burnt out last Monday. Guernsey Police are appealing for anyone with information as to his whereabouts to come forward.

A further update from Guernsey Police is expected on Friday, following the post-mortem on the remains.
