Weather permitting, Saumarez Park playground will be closed for the rest of this week while a large pine tree is felled.
The work is expected to take four days, from tomorrow (Tuesday 12 November).
A spokesperson for the States said the "tree has reached an age where it is likely to drop branches" and one of the branches at risk of dropping is hanging over the car park next to the playground.
It's also suspected that there are other "structural problems with the tree or that it is potentially diseased" - which has been verified by a local arborist who recommended the tree be removed.
The play park will be closed as a safety precaution while the tree is felled - with the car park adjacent to the playground also closed during the work, except for some spaces allocated to staff at St John’s Residential Home.
Anyone visiting St John’s is asked to park at the car park to the rear of Saumarez Park, off Ruette des Saumarez.
It's expected that the work will be complete by Friday so the playground can be reopened ready for the weekend.
