Guernsey's lifeboats were launched in quick succession on Saturday after two boats ran into trouble just off the coast of the island.
The Coastguard received a warning call from a seven-and-a-half metre motor vessel which broke down near Beaucette marina at 13:00, and half an hour later received another call from a vessel that had run out of fuel near the main harbour.
The first was due to a fouled propeller. It had begun drifting into rocky shallow water with five people aboard.
Both the Spirt of Guernsey and the inshore lifeboat, the Harold Hobbs, launched within ten minutes, with the later towing the vessel back into port before 14:30.
The second drifting vessel was towed back to port by a small commercial vessel which was passing by.
The Coastguard said both incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of planning ahead and “ensuring appropriate checks of the vessel are made prior to departure and that correct safety equipment is carried at all times”.
