Two 'hit and runs' under investigation

Monday 25 February 2019

Two incidents within 12 hours saw Guernsey's emergency services called out to what both appeared to be 'hit and run' incidents on the island's roads.

A pedestrian was injured in the first incident, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was making his way home through St Martins, when he says a car mounted the pavement he was walking on and knocked him over. The victim was treated at the scene by a paramedic before being taken to the Emergency Department at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

A man has been arrested as Guernsey Police investigate what happened.

Separately, another incident at Vazon saw a car left on its roof.

The emergency services were called to Albecq shortly before 08:00, after one car was seen upside down in the road. Another is believed to have left the scene.

One person was assessed by paramedics at the scene, but didn't need to go to hospital.

A local cycling group was among those concerned by the incident and appealed for witnesses to contact Guernsey Police.

These incidents were three of twenty-one attended by SJEAS during a 24 hour period. Over the weekend crews from the St John Emergency Ambulance Service were also on duty at the Guernsey Rally.
