Two-day gaming convention taking over St James

Saturday 16 February 2019

DonkeyCon 2019 gets started today, with two days worth of events for gaming fans and competitors to enjoy.

The Gaming Tournament and Cosplay event is being held at St James this year which fits in with the manager's aim of making the concert hall more accessible to everyone by offering a multitude of activities.

Jon Bisson told Express he wants the former Church to be a 'cultural hub' and with comedy acts and a wide variety of musical genres booked in he is seeming to achieve that already.

While St James is the venue, today's 'Gaming Tournament, Cosplay Contest & Live Music Party' has been organised by the gaming experts at Just Games and it follows in the footsteps of previous events, but this one appears much larger.

There are two days of events, which people can pick and choose which to enter. Some need pre-registering for and others you can take part in on the day. There will be cards and board games as well as computer games on the go and other 'walk-in challenges' and a Cosplay contest.

As well as playing for honour against other gamers, there will be cash prizes available. While some will be restricted due to age limits, the organisers say there will be gaming available for everyone.
