Trip Advisor praises Guernsey Tour Guides

Thursday 11 October 2018

Guernsey based tour guides have been given a certificate of excellence by Trip Advisor after a number of positive reviews for the walking tour guides and those who run tour groups by taxi.

The tour guides who take groups around St Peter Port have been given a certificate for the second consecutive year, after working with Trip Advisor, which is the world’s biggest travel website.

The aim of The Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides is to "promote and ensure all gold and silver accredited guides are quality assured" and those who have achieved their silver or gold badge have to demonstrate the level of guiding activity and personal development they've reached at regular intervals.

Those badges are only awarded "under the stringent training and assessment programme supported by the Guernsey College of Further Education" meaning they are qualified locally. That accreditation is validated by Marketing and Tourism, which is part of the Committee for Economic Development.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited guides has more than 50 experienced guides, each offering their own specialties including bespoke tours such as ghost walks and tours, private groups, themed nights, corporate functions, educational and excursions.

They include Gill Girard, pictured above, who has become well known as a local tour guide and historian. The President of the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides was awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence herself.

The number of people going on the local tours have risen steadily over recent years and exceeded 1000 for the last 2 years. 2018 looks to outdo last year with a month on month rise of 14%.

Cruise ship passengers are the driving force behind that rise.
