Trial opens into two alleged indecent assaults

Wednesday 23 January 2019

The trial of a young man accused of two counts of indecent assault has opened in Guernsey's Royal Court.

The defendant, who Express is not yet naming because he was underage at the time of the offences, has pleaded guilty to one of the charges, but denies the other.

The two incidents involve different teenage women, and allegedly took place in the summer of 2017.

Judge Russell Finch and the Jurats are overseeing the trial, with Advocate Liam Roffey representing the defendant and Advocate Fiona Russell prosecuting.

The trial started with a hearing to ascertain the facts of the indecent assaults, as while the defendant pleaded guilty, the defence and prosecution did not entirely agree on what happened.

The circumstances of both assaults were also outlined to the court in full.

The trial will continue this week.
