Tour de Sez: Daily update

Monday 10 September 2018

The Tour de Sez has had its "toughest day yet" with the riders and support crew continuing to make their way to Amsterdam since setting off from Guernsey on Friday.

In their own words, the team have told Express what life is like on the road...

Sunday, day three of the Tour, was always going to be tough and riders were right to be apprehensive. It was an uphill, hard slog with weather hitting 27 degrees by the afternoon.

The first day was fortuitous - a following wind and a flat road, but day two was a long day with hill after hill, but this was nothing compared to the uphill struggle they were facing on the third day.

One rider described the hills as "unbelievable" while a lot of people were enjoying time with the two osteopaths by Sunday evening.

The Tour set off on Friday and there were plenty of nerves and excitement on the boat over -  there had been a minor delay as a rider had fallen, but it was not a portent of things to come, the weather has been glorious and team spirits are as strong as ever, but there have been some unusual setbacks.

Day two saw one rider get stung in the mouth by a wasp three times! Medics were on the scene in an instant and tweezers were used to remove the sting which was lodged in the roof of her mouth. It was quite scary as her whole mouth was starting to swell, but we have it on good authority that she handled the situation admirably!

There was also some unintended off-roading when the lead car encountered a French market and a maze of one way roads in Rouen. They followed the labyrinth back to the start and plotted a diversion which was sent to the riders, but not every group noticed the diversion and some were lost in the loop for an hour. But day four is now underway and the Tour are heading to Dunkirk. Next update tomorrow! Allez Allez!
