Suspected drink drivers arrested

Tuesday 05 December 2023

Traditionally the first weekend of Christmas parties and work socials, the last few days have seen three people arrested for drink driving.

Guernsey Police said a 44-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were all stopped by officers between Friday 1 and Sunday 3 December.

One of the trio has been charged while the other two have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Guernsey Police said that their message is "simple":

"If you want to keep your license and avoid the risk of going to prison, don’t drink and drive; it’s really that simple.

"Drink driving puts the lives of every road user at risk. Don’t have a drink and get behind the wheel. #DontDrinkDrive"

The police warning came at the same time as the Health Improvement Commission relaunched its own anti-drink drive campaign.

In a message shared to social media, the HIC said we should all be like 'Christmas Clive'.

"Be like Christmas Clive, don't drink and drive," and added that anyone going out for an alcoholic drink over Christmas should "plan your evening. Don't take your vehicle and have the temptation of driving home. Get a lift or taxi, take the bus or walk, just Don't Drink and Drive."
