St Martin's ‘School Street’ is proving to be popular and its trial has been extended for the entirety of the next academic year.
In March a decision was made to close La Route des Coutures on school days, between 08:30 and 09:00 and 14:45 and 15:15 for a week-long feasibility study before Easter after requests from children attending the school.
The States Traffic and Highways Services team arranged the week-long trial after pupils raised concerns around safety during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Its success saw the week-long trial extended into a full nine month trial, and it has now been extended further.
“We are delighted to hear that our school street will remain in place for the next academic year,” said St Martin’s Primary School Headteacher, Clare Giles.
“There was strong support for the initial trial that we carried out and I’m sure that this longer-term arrangement will be welcomed by many of our children and the wider school community.
“This also shows our children that they have a voice and are able to engage in matters that affect them, allowing them to be part of bringing forward a really positive solution.”
