Sprinklers fitted at Cour du Parc

Following the Grenfell Tower fire, sprinklers have been fitted at Guernsey's only "high rise" block of flats to ensure residents safety.

The work has been carried out in all of the flats at Cour du Parc after the property's management; Guernsey Housing Association, worked with a company using local employees to fit the sprinklers.

That work involved installing new pipework from the water supply fitted at ceiling level in the hallway and sprinkler heads installed inside the flats at a high level. The GHA said this is "in addition to the many safety features already in place such as smoke and heat detectors, a smoke extraction system, fire extinguishers and fire doors."

Domestic Sprinklers Ltd. carried out the work which took 12 weeks to complete.

Residents were kept informed of developments throughout the process, which the GHA's Chief Executive said was very important.

“We want to reassure our residents and the public that the Cour du Parc building is very secure, however with all the debate about safety in high rise buildings in the UK media we felt that if it was physically possible to fit sprinklers then we should do so,” said Steve Williams.

“We have contracts in place for all the equipment to be serviced and regularly checked and the GHA regards the safety of its residents as its top priority. By investing in a sprinkler system we have added an extra level of safety to an already secure building.”
