WATCH: Six GSPCA seal pups "improving daily"

The GSPCA is appealing for donations of fresh fish to feed the six seal pups currently in its care.

The pups are said to be "doing well and improving daily", with one due to be released back into the sea soon.

“We order the fish in bulk as each seal pup eats 20 to 30 mackerel or herring a day but with the stormy weather we have had it's been difficult to get fresh fish," said GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne. “We are appealing for help and if anyone has fish caught in the last three months they can donate we would love to hear from them.” 

The charity is asking specifically for donations of herring or mackerel but would be grateful for any whole sea fish.

Head of Marine Mammals, Geoff George, said weather issues are also delaying the release of a seal pup: "The weather has always stopped us from releasing Marty the seal pup from Jersey who is now ready to go back to the wild when there is a break in the weather."

Pictured: Marty the seal was rescued in Jersey and flown to the GSPCA in December.

Two of the pups were rescued in Jersey and brought to Guernsey for specialist care.
