Senior Army Officer stepping in as the Bailiwick’s next Lieutenant-Governor

Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE has been announced as the island’s next Lieutenant-Governor when Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder’s term comes to an end.

The news was revealed during the start of today’s States Debate, with Lieutenant General Cripwell currently serving in Turkey as Deputy Commander Allied Land Command.

He’s based in Turkey with the standing headquarters for NATO land forces.

His announcement was officially made from the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor after Her Majesty the Queen approved his appointment.

“I am delighted and extremely honoured to have been chosen to be Her Majesty’s personal representative in the Bailiwick, and I look forward to playing a part in the life of its three jurisdictions,” said Lieutenant General Cripwell.

Lieutenant General Cripwell is a decorated officer having served in both the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan.

He hails from Northern Ireland and will be coming to Guernsey with his wife Louise and his son and daughter.

“Louise and I look forward to meeting Islanders and sharing in the rich history, character and natural beauty of all the islands,” he continued.

Lieutenant General Cripwell has worked for Britain’s Defence Attache, was the Head of the British Defence Staff in Washington DC for three years, and was also the Deputy Commander of Operation Resolute Support, which assisted coalition forces in Afghanistan.

Further details on his swearing in ceremony will be announced later this year.
