Same yacht, different day...

Guernsey Coastguard and Channel Islands Air Search have helped the French coastguard rescue a stricken yacht, for the second time in a week.

‘Lions Pride’ was used to locate the drifting vessel on Saturday, after the solo-crew member was reported missing by a concerned family member.

Express has had it confirmed it was the same yacht that was adrift of Jersey last week.

CIAS also helped find it then.

On Saturday morning at 08:40 Guernsey Coastguard was called into action in the search for a vessel between Guernsey and North Brittany.

The ship had left Jersey two days earlier, just 24 hours after it was previously brought back into St Helier's harbour.

It was spotted en-route to the search area, which had been marked as 50 miles west of Guernsey.

The boat was disabled and drifting in choppy conditions before a French lifeboat was able to tow them to Trebeurden in Northern France, a process which took six hours.

James Way, Search Mission Coordinator for Guernsey Coastguard said: “We are delighted that the missing sailor was located safe and well and was able to be reunited with his family.

“This incident highlights the amazing capability of Channel Islands Air Search and the enormous value they provide to the Guernsey, Jersey, and French Coastguard services.

"It must be remembered that the crew are all volunteers, and our thanks goes out to the team involved in today’s search and rescue for a job well done”.
