"Rocking around the Christmas tree..."

Sunday 10 December 2023

A locally hand-crafted rocking horse is being raffled off in aid of Guernsey Mind this Christmas, offering someone the chance to win the beautiful wooden piece of artwork while raising money for the charity.

Steve Glass has made the rocking horse which featured earthwork detailing, a real horse hair mane and tail and a secret time capsule hidden inside...

The rocking horse - which is on display at Les Cotils - is described as a "one-of-a-kind piece, with detailed woodwork, painting, and leatherwork all created by local craftsman Steve Glass".

He is hoping the raffle raises lots of money for both charities.

“Making the horse has taken many, many hours – I can’t count how many and it has been a labour of love, but I’m so glad that any proceeds from the raffle will go to such worthy local charities. I hope whoever wins it will get lots of joy from it.”

Tickets are available at £2 each with all of the proceeds from the raffle going towards supporting the work of Guernsey Mind and Les Cotils.

Les Cotils is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation which promotes the spiritual and social welfare of people of Guernsey through hosting a peaceful place for meetings, workshops, and conferences and other services.

Guernsey Mind is a mental health charity that supports and promotes positive mental health for the community. It provides a wide range of services for those dealing with mental health issues and aims to raise awareness about mental health in Guernsey.

"We're excited to offer such a unique and handcrafted prize for our charity raffle," said Jo Cottell, Chief Executive at Guernsey Mind. "It's not just a rocking horse, it's a piece of art with a secret time capsule that adds a touch of mystery and fun."

The draw will take place on Wednesday 20 December meaning the raffle winner could have the rocking horse in their home for Christmas Day.

You can buy tickets at Les Cotils or through Guernsey Mind.
