A charity which provides horse riding lessons for people with disabilities has been celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Riding for the Disabled honoured the occasion with a special celebration at Government House for service users of all ages, and volunteers past and present.

The wife of Guernsey’s Lieutenant-Governor, Mrs Louise Cripwell, hosted the event, which marked 50 years during which the RDA has been helping people of all walks of life.

The charity says it currently sees approximately 40 adults and children ride at La Carriere and Melrose stables every week.

“We are very grateful to Mrs Cripwell for hosting our 50th anniversary party, which has been a really lovely occasion for our service users and the perfect way to thank those islanders who have supported RDA Guernsey since it launched in 1974," she said.

“RDA Guernsey is entirely self-funding and run purely by volunteers, so we are always looking for more people to help out.

“It was a pleasure to thank the volunteers for all that they do and to welcome them and service users to Government House for a party to mark this special occasion. It’s been great fun."
