A replacement Chair for the Guernsey Development Agency has been revealed, with Peter Watson being announced as Chair Designate in the wake of Stuart Falla’s departure.
Earlier this week the previous Chair, Stuart Falla CBE, resigned from the role amidst the collapse of the Garenne Group.
He said it isn’t the right time for him to be able to fully commit to the role, which will lead the Agency in developing the east coast of Guernsey.
His replacement, Peter Watson, had previously expressed an interest in the role before Mr Falla was appointed, and has been an ordinary board member ever since.
His appointment ‘in principle’ has been unanimously supported by the Presidents of the committees which are guiding the direction of the Agency: Policy & Resources, Environment & Infrastructure and Economic Development.
His appointment has only been agreed in principle at the moment because it’ll need formal acceptance through the States during the July debate.

On his appointment, Mr Watson said: “While I respect his reasons, I was sorry to hear of Stuart Falla’s resignation. But I share his view that the establishment of an independent agency to develop our east coast is crucial to successfully delivering the sort of development that supports Guernsey’s economic future.
“I’m looking forward to working with the States to firmly establish the Agency so we can start to make things happen.”
His decision to Chair the board was welcomed by the President of P&R.
“I’m pleased that Peter has accepted the role of Chair Designate,” said Deputy Peter Ferbrache.
“He was a strong candidate when he first expressed an interest for the role and so I was hopeful he would still be interested in taking it on, and leading in moving the Agency forward. His business background is up there with the very best, and we’revery lucky to have someone so capable and experienced to pick up where Stuart Falla leaves off.”
