Repairs to Havelet slipway have begun

Sunday 03 July 2022

Repairs to the Havelet slipway caused by storm damage in 2018 are set to start today.

The work will be undertaken during the summer season to take advantage of better weather and low spring tides. The works are set to complete in October.

The repairs are being funded as a “must do” project under the Government Work Plan which was agreed by the States Assembly last year.

Geomarine Ltd was selected as the principal contractor after a competitive tendering exercise, which was delayed due to the pandemic. The tender considered a range of criteria assessing bid quality, value engineering proposals and price.

The design of the repairs has considered a more robust approach to help withstand severe weather events in the future.

While repairs are undertaken, there is no public access to the structure. Parking in the area will be suspended for the duration of the site works, to allow for access and a contractor’s compound.

Guernsey Ports has thanked the public “for their understanding” in advance of the disruption.

Mariners are reminded that Local Notices to Mariners 005/2019 is still in force and the structure should not be used until the notice has been rescinded by Guernsey Ports.
