Those interested in campaigning for one of the options in October's Island Wide Voting referendum are encouraged to attend an event next month so they can learn more about how it will work.
A presentation will provide interested groups or individuals with the opportunity to learn about the role of campaign groups in the referendum, and they can then put any relevant questions to the States committee behind it.
The plan is for the evening to also act as a networking event for those interested in representing the same option, with tables planned for each option's supporters to sit at.
"This event is an opportunity for people interested in forming or joining a group to learn more about the purpose of the campaign groups, the application and decision process, and the referendum as a whole," Deputy Peter Roffey, President of the States' Assembly & Constitution Committee, said.
"It is also an opportunity for people interested in forming, or joining, a group to meet like-minded individuals and consider whether they wish to put a group together."
In advance of this meeting, the Committee has published a guidance note “Applying to be a campaign group”, available to download at gov.gg/referendum, which provides an overview of the application process and what information will be requested from prospective groups as part of their application.
“On 18th April, 2018, the States will consider proposals from the Committee to appoint the three members of the Campaign Group Assessments Panel who will assess the applications from the prospective groups," Deputy Roffey added.
"If the States approves the proposed Panel, the prospective groups will have until noon on Friday the 25th May, 2018 to submit their applications. The application form can be completed online at gov.gg/referendum or by completing an electronic application form, available to download on that page.”
Anyone seeking further information regarding applying to be a campaign group, or the referendum more generally, should contact Ms E Dene, the Lead Referendum Officer, at referendum@gov.gg or by telephone on 717284.
The event is taking place on Monday 16 April at 19:00, when the presentation will start.
The referendum itself is due to be held on Wednesday 10 October, 2018. It is going to be a "multi-option referendum" with five options as below:
