Rectory for sale

Tuesday 10 September 2024

The Castel Rectory has gone up for sale with an asking price of £1.85 million.

The four bedroom property is on Rue de la Lande in the Castel.

Adjacent to St Matthews' Church, the rectory is owned by the Parish which is currently responsible for its upkeep.

Both the rectory and the church still have stonework carried out by renowned local stone mason Daniel De Putron. Some of this construction work was carried out using pink granite - known to have come from quarries along the west coast more than 100 years ago.

Described by Cooper Brouard as "a superb 19th century detached home in an elevated position with beautiful rural views towards the West coast," the rectory is said to "exude historical charm and craftsmanship".

The decision was made to sell the rectory earlier this year when the Castel Douzaine decided it had become too expensive to maintain and it was too large a property for a rector to live in.

The parish rector hasn't lived at The Rectory since at least 2022 when the Douzaine decided to rent the property out instead.

It was let for £4,000 per month at the time.

The Castel rector is believed to live in rented accommodation in St Peter Port, while the priest for St Matthew's Church lives in her own home.
