Primary school's chicken "kicked to death"

Tuesday 12 March 2019

Guernsey Police are asking for information after a chicken was kicked to death at La Mare de Carteret Primary School.

The attack took place sometime between 14:30 last Friday and 07:00 on Monday, when the school's chicken coop was also vandalised.

"The children are very upset to see their chicken coop vandalised," said Headteacher Kim Hutchinson. "The chickens were incubated in school two years ago and it has been a great source of comfort to many children to see their chicks grow from the first day they were hatched. The children look after them every day and enjoy collecting the eggs. It is a very sad day for the whole school community to hear of such shocking news."

A Guernsey Police spokesperson said: "This is a deeply unpleasant and despicable act which will deeply affect the school community. It's senseless, heartless, stupid and extremely troubling that anyone thinks a chicken should be kicked to death. We have a number of leads, and we say to whoever did it: come forward and admit it now."

Anyone with information should call Guernsey Police on 725111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
