Public Health is asking 50 to 64 year-olds to "help protect the community" by getting a flu vaccination, now that another shipment has arrived on island.
Healthcare workers, over 65's, school children and people in clinical risk groups were among those prioritised by local health services for the first batches of the vaccine.
Health Protection Nurse Jo Rocha said HSC are now in a position, following receipt of the last batch of vaccines, to extend the rollout to people aged between 50 and 64.
"This year it is more important than ever to ensure that islanders take up the offer of the vaccination against seasonal flu. We have had an excellent take up so far this year from those aged over 65, and those who identified as ‘at risk’ from seasonal flu," she said.
"We would really encourage islanders to have the flu vaccine this year so we can ensure our community receives the protection it brings. Having the vaccine protects both individuals and the wider community by limiting the spread of the flu virus."
These will be administered at Primary Care flu vaccination clinics and people in this age bracket will be contacted by their doctor’s surgery in order to make an appointment.
The States of Guernsey is funding the cost of the vaccine and contributing £7 (approximately 50% of the standard fee) towards the cost of its clinical administration.
