Preliminary work on L'ancresse wall happening today

Tuesday 25 September 2018

Work to establish the level at the bottom of the anti tank wall at L'ancresse East will start today - ahead of plans to remove it being further developed.

This stage of the work is expected to cost around £2,000 with the whole project estimated to cost just over one million.

To find out the depth of the wall, "holes will be drilled vertically through the wall at a small number of locations, avoiding panels that have rotated forward, to determine the level of the bottom of the wall. These holes will then be infilled."

The States said this work is required to confirm the depth of the wall for planning purposes. Even though the States of Deliberation have agreed the damaged section of the wall should be removed, a planning application needs to be submitted and approved before any work to reliagn that part of the bay can get underway.

In a statement, Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services said that engineers working on the wall have "encountered what is believed to be the bottom of the wall on a number of occasions when filling voids," but they said, "it is important that this level is confirmed so as the volume of concrete is known."

The works should have only a limited impact on the use of the beach in the vicinity of the drilling, but efforts will be made to keep dust to a minimum.

The public are asked to be aware that there will be a few movements of contractor’s plant and equipment at the eastern end of the bay during the day and beach users are asked to be "observant and follow all safety and information signs present on the site."
