Prayers for Sarah Groves as murder trial stumbles on

Sunday 21 October 2018

Prayers will be said for Sarah Groves at a church service this evening, while the man accused of killing her remains on trial, more than five years after her death.

The 18:30 mass at St Joseph's Church is dedicated to 'Justice for Sarah', which has became a phrase often shared by her relatives, friends and others who support the quest for the truth about how she died and why.

Miss Groves was found stabbed to death on a houseboat in Kashmir in April 2013.

Richard de Wit had been staying on the same houseboat and was arrested soon after her death. He is still being held on remand in Srinagar while his trial continues.

Most recently, two days set aside for the trial last week saw little progress made yet again.

On Monday, 'Prosecution Witness 37 out of 46 listed' was cross examined.

Ms Tehmmena Bhat was a member of the medical team associated with the autopsy on Miss Groves' body. Her evidence confirmed that Miss Groves "was clean of all toxins and substances at the time of her death."

The second scheduled date on Tuesday saw absolutely no progress made though.

Sarah's father, Vic Groves, said "heightened security requirements caused by election polling" meant the hearing couldn't go ahead on Tuesday, with neither Mr de Wit or the witnesses due to give evidence, there.

He said, "this was clearly the wrong day to schedule a hearing for reasons that would have been known in advance by all concerned."

The next trial date is now scheduled for Wednesday 31 October.
