Population documents now available in multiple languages

Sunday 29 July 2018

Documents and other printed and online material with details relating to Guernsey's recent population management policy changes have been translated into Latvian, Polish and Portuguese for ease of use by people who don't have English as their first language.

The States said it is "part of continued efforts to improve the population management section of gov.gg."

The documents explaining the changes made to the population management policies were agreed by the States in November 2017. The documents explaining the changes are now available in Portuguese, Polish and Latvian online here

The changes agreed were:

  • The States reinstated the former seasonal permit (nine months working on-island, followed by a period of at least three months off island)
  • The States also agreed to the removal of the five-year time limit on residence in Open Market parts B and C, and to remove a restriction that said a person must live and work at the same premises

While these decisions have been agreed by the States, the Population Management Law still needs to be amended and so the States said that, "conscious that amending primary legislation can take time, the Committee for Home Affairs put in place specific policies to ensure the changes agreed by the Assembly were actioned pending the law change."
