Police investigate claims that cyclist spat at child in car

Guernsey Police are investigating an incident around Salerie Corner in which a cyclist reportedly tried to spit through an open window at a five-year-old girl.

Mother-of-two Donna Power has provided a description of the cyclist and made a plea for witnesses and anyone else who can help identify the man.

Ms Power said the incident took place at around 15:20-15:30 on Tuesday afternoon.

"I beeped as he kept swerving, so I couldn't overtake, then when I beeped and told him to use the cycle path sensibly he decided to honk back and tried to spit in my youngest daughter's face [through an open window]," she said. "But as he was riding it blew onto the back window where my eldest was sat, luckily with her window up enough as it would have gone straight in her face."

Ms Power described the cyclist as an average height male, possibly late 20s to 30s, with dark skin, a beard and dark hair that was tied back. Possibly late 20's to 30's. He was wearing dark clothing and also riding a dark mountain bike heading towards Salerie from the Weighbridge on the road, before moving onto the cycle lane and continuing in that direction at a fast speed. 

She was driving in the same direction when the incident took place, and stopped there afterwards to check on her daughters. 

Pictures were taken of the spit that landed on the rear passenger seat window and swabs were taken by the police.
